Just an overall rubbish experience. - All-inclusive vacation to punta cana


I have booked many trips online in the past, with a number of organizations. I have never had an issue with booking... until I used expedia . The first person I spoke to was very accommodating over making changes to a trip that I had booked. The changes were made, and apparently I was refunded the money. However, I am still waiting for the refund to appear on my credit card. When the charges for my revised trip came in, I was floored. I ended up paying an additional $700.00 because even though the trip was listed in Canadian dollars, they argued that I had used expedia.com rather than expedia.ca the first time I booked and could not be held accountable for the booking on the phone. I am sure that I was shopping on expedia.ca- it's bookmarked on my web browser! The second person I spoke to at expedia was argumentative and frankly useless- they could not explain the additional charges to me. The third person was great, and apologized profusely. At her level, the best she could do to help me was to give me a $50.00 travel credit for the next time I use expedia- at least she tried. The extra $700.00 was the difference between USD and Canadian dollars!! I would NEVER have booked a trip to punta cana for almost $4000.00. Also, I was charged three separate transactions on my credit card. One for each airline ticket, and a third charge which was listed as "expedia" on my statement. I called my credit card company who again apologized profusely, but said there was nothing they could do and that problems with this agency are a really common occurrence in their dispute department.

Even though I purchased the cancellation insurance, I would still be responsible for paying the airline. Expedia would refund me the charge on my credit card that says "expedia", but then I would be stuck with $1200.00 worth of useless airline tickets. The tickets could be changed to another date in time, but otherwise I would still be out the money. I would have to pay $200.00 to reschedule a flight, but could be refunded due to my travel insurance, which I paid $118.00 USD for. In the end we are still going on the trip because we can't afford to be at $1200.00 with nothing to show for it. We now have to deal with the stress of paying an extra $700.00 on our already stretched budget, which is totally ruining the happiness we had experienced in having a vacation to look forward to. Book somewhere else and save yourself the heartache and the hassle.
